I understand BlackBloc tactics and neither condemn nor condone their actions. I have marched with BlackBloc activists and never felt threatened or in danger. Currently I take a neutral stance and don’t condone any “Violence” (as the media/power/institution/capital is defining the language around BlackBloc tactics) at the begining of #OccupyVancouver on Sat. Oct. 15th, 2011. Yet I understand, and in cases support, both the metaphorical element to their tactics and the ability to create space where authority and dominant structures are challenged. I agree that vandalism has metaphorical meaning within the context of corporate appropriation and commodification of all capital/property/thought/idea/language/reality and that BlackBloc actions/tactics can reclaim space for the commons. My post entitled Sympathy for the Devil explains this in more detail. I can envision a time and place for metaphorical vandalism, even within the #OccupyMovement at some point. But more to the point, the BlackBloc know how to create space in which Power is redefined as The People’s. If the embers of the #OccupyMovement flare up in unpredictable ways, which challenge True Capital and Power, such space making will be pivotal to maintaining the movement. True Power, which Democracy is suppose to control, is not given up easily or lightly. True power is intrinsically linked to Capital. If you want True Power you need to Democratize Capital which essentially means to Decentralize and Ecologize Capital. In my opinion, this should be the one demand of the #OccupyEverywhere #OccupyWorld movement:
We demand that Capital is Democratized by Dencentralizing and Ecologizing Capital.
Well … what the hell does that mean? (you ask) To be truthful I have no concrete idea; nor should I. I just have an idea, and at this point that is enough. However, I do know that for this to come to fruition we will need a #DiversityOfTactics which challenge Institutionalized Power. Such a challenge will need certain expertise and tactics which the BlackBloc have. A question we have to ask ourselves, which will inform the wording of our demand, is: How far are we willing to take this? Due we truly want a Global Paradigm Cultural Shift?
